Design & manufacture of Torsion springs for Bespoke Applications
Torsion springs can be manufactured from round or square wire and are available in single or double torsion designs, with a variety of leg configurations to suit different applications. Their versatility makes them ideal wherever rotational force is needed. Common uses include agricultural machinery as tines, check valves, and various mechanical and industrial systems requiring torque.
Torsions springs are usually made in either single or double torsions depending on the requirements of the springs. Quite often agricultural machines use double torsions as tines or valves in non return valves.

When ordering a torsion spring
Consider the following factors:
Wire size
Specify either metric or Imperial measurements or Standard Wire Gauges. We stock all the standard wire sizes and also a large range of non-standard wire sizes for certain designs.

Diameter
Specify the outside diameter of the main part of the spring, or the size of rod that is to go through the centre of the spring (if any). The diameter of the spring is inversely proportional to the rate (strength) of the spring.

Number of coils
The number of coils is inversely proportional to the rate (strength) of a torsion spring. A large number of coils will result in a fairly weak spring. A small number of coils will give a relatively strong spring.

Leg types
The following are just four examples of leg arrangements for torsion springs. There is no standard type of leg configuration for torsion springs although the cost to manufacture will increase as the complexity increases. The simplest (and cheapest) type are the tangential legs, but we are able to manufacture just about any design you could imagine with multiple bends and/or hooks and loops. Feel free to contact us to discuss any specific requirements.
